Eisenhower and TPCBA Complete Community Painting Project
Attorneys:

During August and September of this year, Eisenhower (spearheaded by our associate, Hannah Jackowski) and the Tacoma-Pierce County Bar Association (TPCBA) teamed-up to paint the exterior of a home in Tacoma through the Paint Tacoma-Pierce Beautiful program, sponsored by the Associated Ministries.  Founded in 1985, Paint Tacoma-Pierce Beautiful organizes volunteer crews to paint the exteriors of homes of low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners in Tacoma, Lakewood, and other communities throughout Pierce County each summer.  Since 1985, Paint Tacoma-Pierce volunteers have painted more than 2,144 homes.

Eisenhower and the TPCBA began their work on a home in August and finished in late September.  The project included scraping and sanding chipped paint, caulking, pressure-washing, and priming, as well as applying multiple coats of paint to the home’s exterior.  Some of the volunteers even took to the overgrown hedges at the front of the home, exposing the long-covered front staircase and handrail, making it usable to the homeowner for the first time in nearly a decade.

More recently, Eisenhower was recognized for its efforts on the project in the October/September and November/December publications of the Pierce County Lawyer, the bi-monthly magazine published by the TPCBA.  The articles, authored by the TPCBA President, John Christiansen, describe the efforts undertaken and feature photos from various stages of the project.  As Mr. Christianson noted in his November/December article, the volunteers enjoyed getting to know the homeowner and each other over those two months, reminding both groups that community service is about more than just accomplishing a task – it is also about strengthening the community through fostering personal relationships.
